Three Chequers Medical Practice actively participates in Health Research.
Occasionally, you may be contacted to take part in any of our Research Studies. If you would like more information about the study or you would like to take part, please contact the Research team at the Practice.

Information about our current research studies can be found in each of our sites and on this page. We are actively recruiting for the following Research Studies:
Athena
Some people who have had shingles, can have nerve pain in the area of the shingles rash, months after the rash has gone. This is called “post-herpetic neuralgia”. We currently do not have any treatments that prevent this. Athena Shingles Study want to find out if a low dose of a tablet called amitriptyline may help prevent it.
We are looking for patients who are 50 years or older who have just been diagnosed with shingles AND are eligible to take part.

COAT
The COAT study is looking for patients with lower leg cellulitis (a common bacterial skin infection, that causes redness, swelling and pain). The aim of the trial is to evaluate the differences between prescribing 5 days worth or 7 days worth of the medicine flucloxacillin. If you believe you meet the criteria and you are interested in taking part, please contact the Practice to find out more.
HIPPCRATES Prospective Observational Study (HPOS)
Are you living with Psoriasis and want to participate in research?
Up to one-third of people living with psoriasis will develop a related arthritis causing inflammation in the joints and tendons. HPOS is a study of people living with psoriasis. Led by patient research partners, a researchteam at University of Oxford and University College Dublin are aiming to identify people at risk of developing psoriatic arthritis.
Public Involvement (PPI) Advisory Group
A Group led by the Univeristy of Oxford are planning a Research Study exploring whether a CT scan can diagnose lung cancer earlier than the chest x-ray currently perfomed when lung cancer is suspected.

LOCI
The University of Birmingham are looking for volunteers who wish to be part of the LOCI trial. If you have polycystic ovary syndrome and are seeking treatment from a fertility clinic then you might be suitable to take part.

Panoramic
Panoramic is a UK-wide clinical study sponsored by the University of Oxford and funding by the National Institue of Health and Care Research to find out in which people new antiviral traments for COVID-19 in the community reduce the need for hospital admission. Panoramic is open to everyone with ongoing symptoms of COVID-19 and a positive PCR or Lateral Flow test, regardless of vaccination status.

SPiDeR
Are you over 65 and take more than 5 regular medications? Would you like to share your view on social prescribers working within General Practice who are supporting people taking mulitple medications ? We are looking for patients to take part in a short interview either online/telephone/in person. You will be compensated for your time with a £25 amazon voucher.
TIGER
Eczema affects 20% of children, characterised by dry, itchy, inflamed skin. The TIGER study wants to find out if diet changes could relieve eczema symptoms based on the results of a skin prick allergy test. Foods that will be tested are cow's milk, hen's eggs, wheat and soya. If your child is aged between 3 months and 2 years with eczema then please contact the Practice to find out more.
